MEP Candidate Pledge for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria

MEP Candidate Pledge for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria

What is the purpose?

The purpose of this campaign is to make global health and the Replenishment of the Global Fund a key priority in the MEP elections in May 2019 and ensure leading candidates are engaged and informed on the importance of the EU investment in the Global Fund.

Who are we targeting with this pledge?

Leaders of the party lists standing for the European Parliament Elections. When reaching out to candidates you can use the following letter:

How does the MEP Candidate pledge work?

  1. Targeted leaders are requested to sign the online pledge. Italian version also available.
  2. Leaders who signed the online pledge are then contacted by advocates to request a meeting and an opportunity to photograph a formal pledge signing. You can use a placard, a pin or any method that works for you. A placard can be downloaded below. Photos of pledge signing should be posted to social media and should be tagged with #EndtheEpdemics   #MEPelection  & @gfadvocates
  3. Send out a press release, write a post for your website, or share again over social media who has signed on to the pledge.  Promote the supporters and keep Global Health front of mind in this election.
  4. If you are able to gain the support of a prominent leader, pitch for an interview or a media story in the local press or in an online publication. Advocates can work with outlets like AIDSPAN or POZ to prepare questions to interview the targets.

What does the pledge ask for?

The pledge is a commitment to increasing funding for the Global Fund from the EU.

What about a more detailed commitment from EU Candidates?

To get a more detailed response from Party leaders you can ask them to fill out this questionnaire.

You can also download a version in Word, below and amend or translate as necessary. Do not forget to include where candidates can send survey responses if you are providing paper copies and please share the results of these surveys or pledges with GFAN.
